In high school I was that one kid who really wanted attention. Unfortunately for me, I had no idea how to appropriately go about this... so I grew out a mullet.
Why is it we do things to make others like us? Why can't we be happy just the way we are?
I never had a lot of hair products growing up, but I did spend a good 30-40 minutes in the bathroom each morning before school -- freshening up, trying to look my best. There's nothing wrong with making yourself presentable, heck, I still go out and buy spendy colognes from time to time.
But how do we deal with the issues of vanity and self-appreciation? Well... where do I put my value? As mentioned earlier, I used to tie my very existence to how others viewed me: How many texts am I receiving on a daily basis, how many hundreds or thousands of friends do I have on social media.
Those things can be more of a burden than anything else and are EXTREMELY UNRELIABLE. What happens if your great week revolves around getting together with the guys/girls tonight... you just can't wait to show off some new trick or outfit. Suddenly, plans are canceled, what do you do now? Or wait; what if you're not invited to something and find out later! (Yes, these things do happen.)
If we rely on others to give us our value we will be flat and flimsy people. Nobody wants to have shallow character... we all desire to be the best US we can be!
So where do I place my value?
Value is something internal and external. The internal part is coming to an agreement that you are special! You matter to someone, believe me, I can say with 100% guarantee that there's somebody out there who wishes the best for you, every hour of everyday. Jesus died for you so that you can experience peace like never before -- it's incredible how real He is!
As hair gel helps my keratinized skin cells stay in place, so self-confidence keeps you a head in life, even when things get hairy (puns for days). If you are able to accept yourself and you refuse to let others shape your worth... wow... life just got a whole lot easier.
See you tomorrow!
