Confession time. I'm that guy who checks the date on everything in the fridge.
On. Everything.
Back when I was in school for my Bachelor's, I returned to my dorm from an extended weekend. My favorite cereal is Cinnamon Toast Crunch and I suddenly had a mad craving. So... out comes the bowl, the cereal, and finally that good ole 2% milk. Bringing the spoon up to my mouth I got a whiff of a little something before YUCK!
A week past expiration does wonders to dairy. I gagged while feeding the remaining breakfasty goodness to the garbage disposal.
So now you can understand why I'm a little... paranoid... when it comes to fridge food.
I wonder why that is. How can one, single experience shape our trust? Modify our perception? With people I guess it's the same way. When someone you believe in fails you and breaks their word, we aren't likely to trust the next person who comes along. Why go through all that pain again? For those who haven't had their back-stabbed you can tell... they will trust anyone, anytime, anywhere without a second thought. Bottom line however is humans are humans and they will make mistakes.
My mistake was not acknowledging the milk's date, lol, I guess we can do similarly with our friends. I know I sometimes run up to one of my own and tell them everything going on in MY life, not allowing him or her a chance to share their own feelings. In the past this has dampened a lot of friendships (things are getting real) and I hope you don't make the same mistake! Thankfully at the age of 21 I've learned more about boundaries, but it wasn't until I received the spoiled milk I deserved.
What you put into each friendship is what you get out.
Take time today to pour into a friend's life. Not only do you feel good inside but also things come back around (it's scary how real this is). Oh! And make sure you listen to others, listening to someone else is a huge part in being a good friend. Whether something serious is going down in their life or they want to tell you about the newest anime that dropped. A healthy listener is a worthwhile friend.
Two more days of blogging and then I'll be switching to Mondays only.
It's a lot of work doing these & my books (plus day job, school).
Awesome having you here, and remember to tell your friends! :)
